Liniers Gives Dual-Language Presentation at the Children's Tent
It was one of those perfect blue-sky September days for the Brooklyn Book Festival. Kids lined up at the TOON Books table to discover new comics, meet the authors, AND take home a big red balloon to help celebrate the launch of Liniers' new book, The Big Wet Balloon. Artists on hand this year included Liniers, Dean Haspiel, R. Kikuo Johnson, Rutu Modan, Jeff Smith, Art Spiegelman and our very own Editorial Director, Françoise Mouly who was signing her new biography by Jeet Heer, In Love with Art: Françoise Mouly's Adventures in Comics with Art Spiegelman. Liniers also gave a special dual-lanugage reading of The Big Wet Balloon on the prestigious Target Children's Tent and delighted fans with not just a signature, but with gorgeous colored pencil drawings. What a keepsake! Of special note to our Educator-TOON-Enthusiasts, Françoise Mouly also moderated a discussion, "Art on the Mind: Comics and Education" with panelists Gene Yang, R. Kikuo Johnson, and Barbara Tversky. It was a riveting discussion about the value comics have in classrooms drawing upon both anecdotal experiences and scientific research. |
