Ricardo Liniers paints live at Brooklyn's BookCourt to launch the U.S. Debut of The Big Wet Balloon
In the world of comics it was by all accounts a star-studded affair to remember! On September 19, 2013, fans packed into BookCourt to catch a glimpse of Liniers painting a huge canvas, sip wine (or a juice box), and rub elbows with world-renowned cartoonists including Art Spiegelman, Jeff Smith, Rutu Modan, Frank Viva, Dean Haspiel, Gary Panter, R. Kikuo Johnson, and Trade Loeffler. And it all went down to the delightful musical accompaniment by The Half-Tones, comprised of New Yorker cover artist Barry Blitt, Joe Ciardiello, Michael Sloan, and Chris Mariner. TOON Books billed the event as an all-ages extravaganza and that it was. With adults, teenagers, toddlers, infants, and a few taking it all in from the womb, we had the entire age spectrum covered. Liniers got good and messy painting the huge canvas, and then signed books for his adoring and growing legion of fans here in the United States. One young fan even got a custom-painted t-shirt...we wonder – is her mom ever going to let her wear it!? Thanks to everyone at BookCourt for making it such a relaxed and enjoyable event. And thanks to all the fans for coming out! Enjoy the photos! |
